Bob Goff has been known for saying "It's Thursday...Quit!" Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's because he noticed that two of the jobs he quit, he quit on a Thursday. He's taken this a step further that on a Thursday he finds something in his life to quit. And he's not just talking jobs. He's talking about finding ways to create margins in your life to allow God to do His work.
When I really think about it there are a lot of things in my life that are keeping me from fully living the life God intended me to live. Stuff. Attitudes. Food. Relationships. Social Media.
One thing that has been weighing heavy on my heart lately is how I talk to my kids. Something struck me to make me realize that I would never talk to my friends kids the way I speak to my own kids. Now, I understand that I am the parent and I need to put my foot down in a way that I never would with my friends kids. But, what has allowed me to think that it is ok to speak harshly, with attitude or even to yell at my young children?
I was praying about it and the Lord reminded me that Soren and Eva are NOT my children anyway. They are a gift from Him. I have been chosen to watch over them, care for them and instruct them in the way in which they should go (Proverbs 22:6.)
I need to speak to my children knowing they are a gift from God. So this Thursday I choose to quit yelling and speaking harshly to my children.
What about you? Have you ever thought about things in your life that you may need to quit so you can begin to live the life that God intended for you?
